What’s in the name?
Able to induce fascination and horror at the same time, the weta is a pre-historic insect endemic to New Zealand.
We adopted the weta as our name and symbol because it is uniquely Kiwi and because, despite its inherently docile nature, it terrifies much bigger creatures.
Founders
The Cloud-based Packet Engine is the inspiration of two men steeped in the technology and commercials of networking. With more than 60 years of industry experience between them, network designer Steve Hawken and networking executive Andy Miller have experienced at first hand the costs and operational overheads imposed on internet service providers by proprietary solutions.
Recognising that a simpler, lower-cost alternative wouldn’t come from vendors with a vested interest in network complexity, they developed one themselves: The Cloud-based Packet Engine.
